Nattverd – Tidloes Naadesloes

Hoest (Taake) and a certain Von Hellreich (Slagmaur) join Ormr to sing on the new album by this Norwegian black metal machine, Nattverd, called Tidloes Naadesloes. I remember lending my ear to the album Styggdom sometime in 2020, released via the French cult label Osmose Productions. The Norwegians led by Ormr and Aytr have crossed the European mainland and stopped this time at the record store barracks of Dutch Soulseller Records.

No fewer than ten indecent songs are collected on this latest one. There is a cover, so we are left with nine new creations. Ormr, who we also know as Doedsadmiraal, has once again gathered a band of brothers around him. We know Renton from Jordsjuk, Aven from Steinras, Sveinr from Vidsyn. We already mentioned Atyr. It seems quite logical which kind of black metal we will listen to within a few seconds.

It remains pure black metal from the top Norwegian shelf. The gentlemen thunder on happily through the street from the start and do this, as expected, without kid gloves or introduction. Iskalde Horn, a song on which we can immediately welcome Mr Hoest, hits home as usual. It is also immediately clear that the gentleman on the drums, Renton his name, has listened carefully to his colleagues because he shows off a lot of blast beat variation. It remains an art form in itself. It doesn’t always have to be at high speed that well thought out black metal songs are performed. It can also be done differently. Doedsfugl is an example of this. Von Hellreich showcases his vocal prowess here. Particularly peculiar sounds are mixed with the classic black metal foundations, which are presented in a rather sluggish and swampy manner.

The integration of spoken pieces accompanied by melodic bass work is done expertly in For Aa Kunne Bli Doedt. Brilliant, biting melody lines are supported by blast work on Hvisk Deg Vekk or De Sviande Ord Vaagar Ikje For Sitt Liv. The latter has another surprise in store. Among all that raunchiness there is a crystal clear acoustic guitar part hidden, wonderful!

So there. We have listened to ten songs of ultra brutal, aggressive black metal from the purest Norwegian water. I can only conclude that album number five, Tidloes Naadesloes, fits in seamlessly with the previous work. Therefore Nattverd continues to hammer on the rusty black metal nail that many bands have hammered on, but that certainly isn’t a bad thing.
