About devils, demons and hellish scum! About trumpets and horns that make all the bad guys appear from the underworld, that is how you should interpret the announcement for the umpteenth record (an EP or a full-length CD, it is not clear to me) by the German Drudensang. Geysterzvvang, which should mean nothing more than the urge of dark spirits and demons, is the title of this obscure and particularly dark work. This band must be under the roof of Folter Records.
Who doesn’t know this Drudensang? A band that has released many records, a band that has already flattened many a festival with their dark and sinister messages. Often a too long introduction to a new musical spectacle is not good, so I’ll dive right in. Do you want to know more? Look it up, there is a lot to be found about this band that was formed somewhere in 2013 from the remains of Ravnsvart with the help of band brain Krãmpn.
From the introduction of this Geysterzvvang, you can’t tell that these Germans are bloodthirsty and vengeful black metal warriors. It all sounds particularly sweet, fragile and breakable. Something tells me that this can’t last. Right, just over halfway through the song the plague, hell and I don’t know what else breaks out. It’s pure sleaze. Wonderfully chaotic, wonderfully confusing. The sequel Vvydargaenger is more direct, this by means of a masterful arsenal of nimble riffs and even biting solos are no stranger to the track.
Biting and pinching (yes even until bleeding) that’s how the rest of this EP or full-fledged album (I couldn’t care less) sounds. Those thin keyboard carpets in the background bring a lot to a song like Hoellenkunst Im Brennend Aether. When an acoustic guitar part comes around the corner very sensitively in Offenbarung Der Lvzier, then you know: this is quality work.
Well, writing a conclusion to this latest offspring of the German Drudensang should not be labeled as too difficult. Short and sweet, I will note that it is a deliciously filthy listening experience that these hellhounds offer.
