ROT – Old Dirty Grindcores

Ja, mooi hoor. Het Braziliaanse grindcore-instituut ROT krijgt hier een compilatiedubbelaar met maar liefst 150 (!) nummers van Give Praise Records. 150 nummers … die ergens tussen 1991 en 2007 werden ingespeeld of opgenomen. Ik had echt geen zin in deze dubbelaar, vooral omwille van het vele typwerk. Muzikaal (lol, dat woord hoort hierin niet thuis) was het een andere zaak.
Inderdaad, dit is grindcore van de lawaaierigste soort. Powerviolence, mincecore, extreme hardcore … ROT is de Agathocles van Brazilië, en daarmee is alles eigenlijk gezegd. Vocaal is het meer gorillawerk dan dat er geschreeuwd wordt, de gitaren staan ook vaker ranziger en vetter dan bij de meeste slijpschijfgrindcorebands en ook percussiegewijs is het een stuk lomper en doffer dan de meeste aluminium en plastiek garagegrindcore-bands. Drie troeven in dit genre (voor een metalhead), dus het zit vrij goed met ROT. Daarbij durven ze nog wel eens een aardig refrein in elkaar steken, en zelfs een herkenbare “melodie”. Je zou ze zelfs muzikaal talent kunnen toeschrijven. Gaan we niet doen natuurlijk, het blijft grindcore. Maar dus wel beluisterbare grindcore die met de jaren steeds strakker (sorry, ik moet even lachen) en swingender geworden is. Als voorbeeld heb ik Sunny Days Nostalgia genomen, omdat ik niet hou van de opkomende lente. Fuck de lente! En Joepie ROT. En een neus zonder snot. Ademen is leuk. 150 Titels in html zetten, dat is niet leuk.
