Nuclear Blast pakte er al geruime tijd mee uit; en de gemiddelde metalhead was al bijna fan voor hij ooit een noot had gehoord van dit Success Will Write Apocalypse Across the Sky. Success Will Write Apocalypse Across the Sky is een gedeeltelijke reïnmetalisatie van Bodies in the Gears of the Apparatus. Denk nu niet dat het muzikaal een verderzetting is van Bodies in the Gears of the Apparatus, want dat was wel erg technisch.
Success Will Write Apocalypse Across the Sky brengt death metal met grindinvloeden. Een beetje als Cattle Decapitation, maar dan minder progressief. Techniek te koop, dat dan weer wel, en speltechnisch zit het allemaal prima in elkaar. Je kunt het vergelijken met de brutere deathcorebands van het moment of met Aborted, Skinless, Misery Index en de remake Cryptopsy. Vooral de lange drumdosissen (Mike Heller van Malignancy) vol blasts en zonder al te veel abrupte breaks vallen bij mij in goede aarde, net als de brute vocalen en de vet geproduceerde gitaarlijnen. Daar is niemand minder dan James Murphy voor verantwoordelijk.
Success Will Write Apocalypse Across the Sky is een leuke nieuwe band met originele ideeën die op dit album vooral profiteert van een schitterende sound en hun eigen ingevingen. Spectaculair achterovergeblazen ben ik niet, maar plezierig is het wel. Een naam om te onthouden, als je dat lukt tenminste.
