Wrath Of Logarius – Crown Of Mortis

Wrath Of LogariusCrown Of Mortis is the successor to the EP Necrotic Assimilation. These four Americans from the broad region around California managed to convince the great Season Of Mist label of their qualities. You may call it crazy, knowing that their band name was taken from the video game Bloodborne. I think the description of their style of black metal is even crazier. It would have to be the so-called formless variant, whatever that means. If you read that the Portuguese of Gaerea give inspiration to these Americans, we may be on the right track.

I hope with all my heart that the production is also in line with the latest releases from these Portuguese, because then it will of course be more than great. So I am looking forward to the performance of Mr. Cody Fuentes, the gentleman who was responsible for all the button work in the Rapture Recordings studio. What the American friends still do compared to the men and lady in Gaerea is the use of masks. But that is no longer new within our beloved genre.

What do the angry voices tell us in the intro, Unfathomable? Namely that Lord Marco, what a name for a drummer, can play quite a game! He is absolutely not afraid to send the BPMs skyrocketing with every stroke. To my ears, Keeper of the Spectral Legion sounds like an upbeat version of Gaerea. It seems as if Dark Funeral and 1349 are also coming into play. Noctifer grunts as if he comes from the deepest wells. At times, he seems to be screaming in a more classic way, it is at these times the black metal of these Americans also starts to sound a bit death metal-like.

When Wrath Of Logarius thunders by in a song like Erosion you immediately know that all erosion, corrosion, rust and I don’t know what else is blown away in one go. In this song, the band also reminds me a bit of Lorna Shore, just like on Of The Void. Mr. Vilhelm from Grima will also join us on The Ethereal Mist in case you haven’t heard enough vocal variation yet.

The extreme metal of this Wrath Of Logarius has similarities with black and death metal, but also has its classical and less classical sides. Edges in which experimentalism, angularity and pointedness are not avoided. A special mention for Lord Marco, the gentleman who just puts everything together on this Crown Of Mortis. I see very few doing what he does on this record. Hats off!
